I asked several in my network to break the ice and get their first blog out there! See previous posts on the “Newbie Blogger Project“. Challenge: If you had to write “6 Things You Didn’t Know” about yourself or business, what would it look like?
Bridget Hazelbaker bravely submitted her first blog on “6 Things You Didn’t Know”….
Three things about my job:
- I build relationships. I believe that it takes the entire community to educate children and to prepare them for the future. I welcome and encourages family and community involvement in Richmond Community Schools. An upcoming event is “Education Day” at the Richmond RiverRats- June 3rd.
- I develop and coordinate public relation materials for the school district. I recently completed a Communication Plan with the help of a Communication Advisory Board (Members are Leslie Bolser , Misty Dees-Hollis, Suzanne Derengowsi, Eric March, Phil Quinn, Pete Zaleski). Be looking for our wonderful ideas in the coming months!
- I recruit mentors for Richmond Community Schools. I speak at different venues to recruit mentors for students waiting to be connected to a mentor. Once a mentor’s background check is complete, I meet with the mentor at a school and match them to a student. Many students need a caring adult in their life. A mentor can be that consistent caring adult. Mentors and students meet for 30 minutes during lunchtime. Communities In Schools’ site coordinators are the point of contact for mentors at 13 schools. Site coordinators collect data on the students and the attendance of the mentors. The site coordinators have done an amazing job this year!
Three things about my other side:
- I have lived in 8 different cities…. (Fort Campbell) Hopskinsville, KY, Frankfort, Germany, Indianapolis, Ind, Yuba City, California, Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Richmond, Indiana.
- My husband, Cliff, and I have been married for 16 years. We enjoy cheering on our children at their extracurricular events. Our children will be the 5th generation of my family to graduate from Richmond High School! Paige – RHS Class of 2017, Samantha -RHS Class of 2018 and Cliffy -RHS Class of 2021)
- I am a reality show junkie. I don’t have much time to watch television but I love the invention of DVR.
